How Southpaw Boxing went from ‘archaic’ software to a streamlined sales process.

How long have you been in the fitness industry and how did you get into it?

I’ve been in the fitness industry about 30 years, I started off as a boxer years ago which was a hobby for a number of years, but then I turned it into a profession. I started Southpaw Boxing 16 years ago out of my garage, it was a passion project at the time.


I was doing it to fill some space in my life, but then it took off! 6 years ago my wife and I realized I had the knowledge and skills to take it to the next level. I also run a gym consulting business on the side of Southpaw Boxing.


How were you managing your leads before?

Honestly, we had kind of an archaic set of different programs all running and linked together. It was barely a system, just a bunch of different processes mashed together. We tried a few other CRM’s here and there, but the support wasn’t there.

What wasn’t working with those other programs?

I wanted a program that had all those different processes in one. We found a few marketing programs, but we found nothing that combined lead management with key marketing functions. I needed something that had automatic steps for my sales team and the ability to oversee what they were doing. Then we found GymLeads!

What do you love about GymLeads?

It’s very well thought out – when we started out, we had lots of different ways of capturing leads and we would lose track of all our landing pages and click funnels, but now GymLeads captures them all in one place. Then my staff can easily see all the new leads and assign them to themselves. We also integrate with Calendly so leads booking themselves in is all automated and collected by GymLeads too, so that’s very handy. 

What other tools do you use the most in GymLeads?

I use the calendar function a lot to keep an eye on my team’s schedule, and segmenting in the ‘Manage Leads’ tab is great. I can use those to prioritize which leads need to be contacted next. 

How easy was it to learn how to use GymLeads?

You’ve designed a system that is compressive but still pretty easy to use. You guys give us a detailed walkthrough when we sign up, but even after that, it is not difficult to have a play around and figure out how to use it.

Also, I have worked with a couple of different companies based in Australia and New Zealand and they seem to be less customer-centric – it can be hard to get a hold of someone. Whereas GymLeads’ ability to connect with the support team and arrange for training calls and just being able to talk to a live agent – you guys make it really easy. I nice to know that if I have questions or just want to go over something, the response times a very quick.
